12 Ways You Should Use Autoresponders

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Autoresponders are amazing, and do so more than just automatically answer your email. Here are a few ideas that will help you productively use your autoresponder to transform the casual visitor into a profitable customer.

You should use autoresponders to:

1. Publish a newsletter. Quality autoresponders will manage subscriptions and follow-up with interested prospects. Your newsletter can keep your visitors informed about your services or products, while building your reputation as a credible expert in your particular enterprise or business.

2. Publish a newsletter only for your affiliates. Inform them of current sales you are running and of promotional material that your affiliates can use themselves to increase their commissions. Include tips, advice, and techniques that your affiliates can use to successfully promote your business.

3. Write reviews. Cover books, software, music, e-books, movies, etc., and put reviews in an autoresponder. Review your affiliate programs, using a link to your affiliate’s page in your autoresponder.

4. Distribute articles.Add a brief description of your service or product. It can also contain your autoresponder address. Let’s say you’ve written ten articles. Put them on separate autoresponder accounts and create a master list that contains the titles of each article, the autoresponder address, and a brief abstract. Then promote your master list.

5. Create mailing lists. Inform subscribers to your articles when you’ve written new ones that they may want to publish in their own newsletter or website.

6. Automate your sales process. Use an ad to insure repeated exposure of your message, which has been proven to effectively increase sales. In your ad, put your autoresponder address. This multiplies the chances of converting visitors into customers.

7. Distribute advertising. Let’s say you sell advertising on your website or in your newsletter or e-zine. Set your autoresponder to send the information about rates and how to place an ad automatically to all prospects’ email addresses. Then have your autoresponder follow-up. It can also send notification of any special deals you are currently offering.

8. Distribute an email course. Each day, have your autoresponder send out another lesson. Just be sure that each lesson has quality content – not a sales pitch. Your content will do the selling for you, and will do it much more effectively.

9. Automate a reminder about your service or product after a visitor has completed your course. This will increase the possibility of sales from visitors who have taken your course but are dragging their feet about actually making a purchase.

10. Distribute free reports. This gives your visitor an dea of the type of information you can provide and the quality of your product or service. Make sure these reports are really informative and not thinly disguised sales letters..

11.Offer a trial version of your product. Give your potential prospects a sample of your ebook, course, software, membership, etc. People who are exposed to a little sample often want the complete product or service. You can also obtain their email addresses when you offer them a free trial from your website.

Finally

Link to hidden pages on your autoresponder. Inform visitors that they may have free access to your affiliate page by simply requesting from your autoresponder. You will then gather a list of visitors who may be interested in joining your affiliate program.

Use an autoresponder on your order page. Post a request form for visitors to be notified of special offers or discounts in the future. This creates a very effective mailing list that contains the names of people who are already your customers. Put your links page on your autoresponder. It should contain up to fifty links that would be of particular interest to your visitors. Make sure to add your own promotional copy at the top or bottom of this page.

What’s Your “Why?”

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Why did you do that? Why didn’t you do that? What is it that motivates us to achieve the goals that we have set? How come some people can stay focused and motivated despite the obstacles? How do they continue to get up everyday, and still go forward with their goal?

They have a big enough reason, a big enough “why”!

We all have goals and push towards achieving them, but the secret to truly maintaining the consistent pressure required to achieve, the secret to having relentless motivational drive, is to have such a big “why” that any other outcome would be catastrophic!

“I want to be wealthy because I want to have a Ferrari and look cool!”
Thats great but do you think that is going to motivate you? not likely! I mean maybe for a rare few the desire to have a Ferrari is so intense that they find their drive. However, to truly be driven you need to search your heart and soul and discover what really moves you. Is it your Children, is it your wife, is it giving back to your parents? Only you know the answer.
I want to be wealthy! Why? Because I want to be able to provide a good life for my children, I want to be able to buy my mom the house she has always dreamt of, to be able to afford to bring my family together regularly, To have more time to spend with the ones I love! To be a success!

That is my “why”!

Hey, nice things are great, but this is the real reason, this is my inspiration!

Now, turn this on its head! Think about what would happen if you dont’ achieve your goals, imagine the opposite! Everytime you lose concentration or focus, think about this.

“I need to stay motivated, If I don’t I will not be able to provide the best things for my children, my mother and father will continue to struggle, and work untill very old, I will not see them in their later years because I can’t afford the travel, I will not enjoy holidays with my family, I will not be able to look after them as they have me, I will not be a success, I will not be a good father!”

It hurts me thinking about it, and that is why I must stay focused!I start getting physically sick when I think about not reaching my goal. This has power to me! It drives me!

Its up to you to look deep inside and understand what you value the most. Then visualise those things being taken away, visualise the hurt, the pain. Then do what it takes!

Do whatever it takes to succeed. The future is yours and yours alone! Live how you decide!

“First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.”
Epictetus

Parenting Advice: Playing Favorites

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Q: We have quite a dilemma in our house and I’m not sure which way to go. We have two daughters, ages 15 and 11. The 15-year-old has taken to blaming all her bad behavior on her sister because she thinks we treat her younger sister as the favorite. Can this make her behave badly? Do you think we should change how we treat them?

A: Put two or more children in one family and someone will eventually cry “you treat him/her better than me!”

So that leads to the question, should you take this seriously, and if so, what should you do about it?

First, ask yourself if there is any validity to the complaint. It could be that one child is easier to deal with than the other _ high maintenance vs. low maintenance. You might share more interests with one child than another, or one child might behave better than another. These are all naturally occurring situations.

Another way to look at it is of course you treat them differently because each of your children grew up in different families. Your oldest child has grown up in a family that was raising its first child, no other kids in the picture. Your second child was born into a family with already broken-in parents and an older sibling.

By definition, you are going to treat them differently, at least to some extent.

One solution here is to schedule dates with each of them on a regular basis. A date would involve one or both parents separately with each child, spending time together just having fun and focused on each child.

Another strategy is to not allow your daughter to use this as a way to manipulate you. If you do, you have given her a powerful and handy piece of leverage.

The bottom line is this: Even if you do treat your children differently, it remains your older daughter’s responsibility to learn how to manage herself in situations that might be unfair, because that’s good training for the real world, and to behave in the manner that you have taught her is appropriate. In other words, don’t lower your standards for behavior in the face of “you treat her different than me!”

Review: Patricia Harrington’s Second Novel, Death Comes Too Soon: A Bridget O’Hern Mystery

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Author: Patricia Harrington

ISBN: 1413777082

Patricia Harrington’s second novel, Death Comes Too Soon: A Bridget O’Hern Mystery, makes superb use of an exciting and unusual plot twist and ending.

The story unfolds when Bridget O’Hern, a non-profit management consultant, is invited to spend a few days with her friend Beverly Tilton, who owns a B&B in Seaview Oregon. Apparently, Beverly, who is one of the officers of the Oregon Coast Art League, suspects that its director, George Harris may have pilfered some of the Art League’s funds. It seems the organization has recently been losing money, and as she is confident of Bridget’s snooping capabilities, engages her friend to determine if George was in fact confusing the Art League’s assets with his own.

Within the first day of her arrival, Bridget is invited to dine out with Beverly and her husband Tom. Unfortunately, the evening turns sour, as Beverly had a little too much to drink and winds up intoxicated. Nevertheless, Bridget was able to find out from her friend a little about George Harris, as well as some of the other members of the League.

The following evening, while attending a fund raiser of the Art League on the beach, a terrible tragedy occurs, when Beverly arriving late, trips and falls down a flight of stairs on her way down from the parking lot resulting in her untimely death. Police Chief Sam Alpern shows up on the scene and immediately there is suspicion of foul play. Evidence points to some kind of slippery substance that had been spread over the area where Beverly had tripped. Who did it, why and how become the foremost preoccupations of Bridget and the police.

After a few days of cagey prying, Bridget ascertains that there are several individuals who may be the culprits. What quickly becomes apparent is that each one from a broad cast of characters had some kind of a gripe and a reason to see Beverly dead. However, as she reveals her findings to Chief Alpern, she is strongly warned to keep out of police business and he tells her “you are picking up bits and pieces of a puzzle. Pieces someone may feel too dangerous for you to know.”Alpern also reveals that there are other ongoing investigations and he does not want her in the middle of these investigations.

Although Death Comes Too Soon: A Bridget O’Hern Mystery may not be the most cracking thriller, it is nevertheless well paced, as the author effectively builds up the excitement of the search for the perpetrator of the murder. Harrington shows a keen ear for dialogue, and her careful attention to the nuances of individual voices greatly enhances the narrative. Readers of Harrington’s novels, while sinking into their most comfortable chairs, will be eagerly awaiting another mystery from this promising author, where once again her heroine Bridget O’Hern will be on the prowl to discover whodunit. And just like a favorite dining establishment, new patrons are always welcome. If you have not checked out O’hern’s, this is probably a great time to give it a shot.

Living Wills and Health Care Directives

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Recent headlines about the Schiavo family in Florida created a multitude of calls to Senior Approved Services from family members who wanted clarification on what it means to designate an individual to make health care decisions on behalf of a loved one that can not make his or her wishes known.

Questions about why the spouse’s decision wasn’t protected from legal actions brought by the parents of a married adult child as well as the intended intervention that our United States Congress attempted have furthered this confusion for each of us.

I did a little research on behalf of the families (that phoned us) and believe the following information that we passed on will be of interest to you as well. We found most of this information at http://www.abanet.org/aging/ The American Bar Association web site.

Who to Choose?

Who should you select to speak on your behalf in a case where you are physically and/or mentally not able to state your wishes? The following ten guidelines will help you decide. You should think about naming one primary person and a secondary back up in case your first choice is not available for some reason.

Your Health Care Agent, Proxy, Representative, Attorney-In-Fact, Surrogate, Patient Advocate, Guardian of Person (all of these names mean the same thing and will vary in use state to state) should …

  • Meet the legal criteria in your state for acting as agent or proxy
  • Be willing to speak on your behalf
  • Be able to act on your wishes and separate his/her own feelings from yours
  • Live close by or could travel to be at your side if needed
  • Know you well and understand what’s important to you
  • Be someone you trust with your life
  • Be willing to talk with you now about sensitive issues and will listen to your wishes
  • Be likely to be available long into the future
  • Be able to handle conflicting opinions between family members, friends, and medical personnel
  • Be a strong advocate in the face of an unresponsive doctor or institution

Who Cannot Be a Proxy?
How Much Authority Should You Give Your Agent?
Who Should Have a Record of Your Wishes?
Who Determines Quality of Life?

Will Small Resellers Be Forced out of the Gaming Laptop Market Too

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

The times where gaming laptops were a small market are disappearing really fast. Obviously for the resellers they were greatly profitable despite not shifting in large quantities. Regardless of that everybody probably wanted one. They were evidently the best laptops that the technology could offer at that time. Even though they did get everybody excited I do not think they sold in quantities because few people actually buy laptops that are overpriced. As of late it looks likes bigger manufacturers are all getting into the market extremely rapidly and things are shifting.

In my point of view they would get away by retailing them at an increased price if they desired. This would be an excellent strategy to produce tidy profits for them. I am pretty certain that the majority would buy laptops if mass marketed by these large companies. Littler system builders surely have their work cut out for them now. I say this because now the technology which was once special and high priced is now the norm. In my point of view if anyone’s prepared to pay a lot of cash the established brand always wins.

To my surprise the mass produced gaming laptops are as good or even better than the best laptops in the market. This is an important opportunity the local retailers need to use to their advantage. I can determine the option of being able to customise the laptop to be a cardinal buying decision. Such consumers are typically tech savvy and can check all the technical information. For this market segment, the tech specs are generally more sought after than the appearance. All game players concur that it is a positive change. The competition between the big manufacturers should drive prices down when they try to distinguish from one another. I am not quite certain any of that would take place though. I reckon technology is getting more advanced however the new laptops will typically remain at premium prices. Even though I still guess outcomes will be good because of the saturated market, we’ll have to watch.

Ten Quick Tips for Outstanding Presentations

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

It’s that time again…the monthly meeting. You break out in
a cold sweat just thinking about it. Whether you present to
your managers or your employees you are saying to
yourself:

What if I mess up?

What if I repeat myself?

What if the audience doesn’t like what I say?

What if I forget a part of my speech?

What if I look nervous?

It’s okay! You’re not the only one feeling this way. The
Book of Lists states that the #1 fear is speaking in public.
This fear is greater than the fear of death.

Well, I have the answers to your fears and can help you
become an outstanding presenter. These 10 tips will help
you become more confident making presentations that
achieve results.

1. Start with an End in Mind
Ask yourself, “Why am I speaking?” “What do I want the
audience to do after listening to my speech?” This will help
you focus on the message you want to share with your
audience. It will help you focus on who is your audience,
the key points, and what you want your audience to do after
listening to you.

2. Keep It Simple
Keep your presentation simple by learning to “speak to
express instead of speaking to impress.” What I mean by
speaking to impress is when you see speakers using $5
words for $2 situations during speeches and they look
uncomfortable doing it. Another example of this is when
presenters overuse PowerPoint. Your audience will soon
lose interest in what you are saying.

Also keep it simple with the structure of your speech. An
opening, body with tree major points, and a closing will help
you connect with your audience.
Just be sincere, concise, and simple in your presentation and
you will always connect with your audience.

3. Practice, Practice, Practice
Master your presentation by practicing. Here’s the secret to
practicing…first read your speech to yourself 2-3 times. This
allows you to work out the majority of the rough spots in
your presentation before you start rehearsing.

Then rehearse in front of a mirror or even better a video
camera or tape player. Also try to rehearse in front of
someone whose opinion you value.

Then practice as close as possible to your speaking
environment as possible. For example, if you will be
speaking behind a lectern, practice with your notes on an
ironing board.

4. Visualize Success
Before going to sleep the night before a presentation I take
time to visualize the success of the presentation. The key to
making visualization work for you is involving as many
senses (sound, touch, sight, smell, etc.) as possible in your
visualization. Have you ever had a dream where it seemed so
real you awoke in a cold sweat (You don’t need to tell me
what the dream was)? It was because you used all your
senses and that dream became so real to you that you
needed to escape from it.

Visualize yourself giving a successful presentation where
you see yourself as a confident presenter, hear yourself
handling questions, etc. Visualize successful presentations
so that it becomes real.

5. Eat the Elephant
I ask the timeless question, “How do you eat an elephant?”
Piece by piece. The same answer applies to presenting to a
group. How do you present to a group? Person to person.
Break the group into individuals.

“How do I present to a large group?” is one of the biggest
questions people have when giving presentations. Get
personal. Whenever possible, I will make sure I arrive early
to the room I’m presenting in and plant myself by the
entrance. I will then greet as many people as possible that
walk through the door. I will shake their hands and let them
know I am glad they came. Here’s a tip for guaranteeing a
positive audience:

* As you greet, look for pleasant, upbeat people. Then say
something like, “I’m especially glad you made it today. As a
matter of fact there’s a sit in the front row with your name on
it. Please enjoy!”

The audience member will usually chuckle and you started
the personalization process. Also this allows you to stack all
the friendly audience members in the front rows. It’s always
nice to see friendly faces in the front row.

Remember, when giving a presentation, it’s not about your
needs or concerns. It’s about the audience’s needs or
concerns. Make it personal and eat the elephant!

6. Nail Your Opening
It’s the first words your audience hears. Know your opening
like the back of your hand. Know exactly what you are going
to say. Once you get started and gain some momentum you
will start to gain confidence for the rest of your speech.

It helps to pause for 3-5 seconds before you are about to
start your presentation so that can focus on what you are
about to say.

7. Nail Your Ending
It’s the last words your audience hears and reminder about
you. You can have a great opening and body and have a
bad ending and your audience your always remember how
you ended.

Ask your audience to take action, think about an idea, etc. so
that they understand why they are there.

8. Backup if You Forget
If you forget what you are about to say or lose your place in
the presentation do the following:

* Stop speaking. Take two steps backward. Then take a deep breath. Collect your thoughts. Smile. Take two steps forward and proceed with your presentation.

* Go back and repeat the last sentence. That will help trigger what comes next in your presentation.

* If you really go blank, ask an audience member what was the last sentence you said. Also, if they have handouts of your speech, you can ask the audience what is the next subject we will discuss. You will be surprised how many people will volunteer this information to help you. This will give you time to collect your thoughts, involve the audience, and go forward with your presentation.

Note: If you forget a piece of information, collect yourself,
and then go forward. Never say, “I’m sorry.” Unless the
audience has a copy of every single word of your speech
they will never know you forgot something.

9. Realize Nervousness is the Tool of Great Presenters
Believe it or not, all presenters, whether professional or
occasional, are nervous when presenting. The difference is
the best presenters use nervousness to their advantage by
turning nervousness into positive energy. Here are some
tips to control nervousness:

* Whenever possible walk from the back of the room to burn some of the nervous energy.

* Slow your breathing

* Stretch

10. Get Excited
Get excited so that the audience is excited about hearing
your presentation.

Some of the ways you can become excited is:

* Remember what you say is important and can make a difference for your audience.

* Every opportunity to present is a chance for you to succeed.

* Every time you speak you become better than the last time.

* Presenting will expose me to countless opportunities I wouldn’t have by not presenting.

So the next time you have the opportunity to present apply
the above techniques. You will have fun while presenting on
a whole new level.

2006 Ford Taurus: Swan Song

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

The 2006 model year will end the heralded Taurus name and for this writer it is a bittersweet time as Ford retires what once the best selling car in all of America.

When Ford introduced the Taurus along with its cousin the Mercury Sable in the mid 1980s the car represented a radical departure from the standard American car of the day. Fairly large, front wheel drive, and very aerodynamic, the Taurus quickly rose to the pinnacle of the American car sales charts and was the best selling car for several years in a row. A much delayed “reskinning” did not occur until 1996, some ten years after the Taurus and Sable were first released. The new style, perceived by some to be ugly, quickly cost Ford sales as newer and more modern Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords out gained the line. Slight changes in style incorporated with the 2000 model year took some of the edge off, but by then the Taurus was considered to be too old and outmatched by the competition.

I purchased an all new 1994 Taurus and kept the car for seven years, racking up 117,000 miles before deciding it was time to trade in the car for something newer. I found the ride to be comfortable, the interior room to be expansive, and I enjoyed the overall style of the car. I was also one of the first people to purchase a Taurus in the then new Hunter Green color, an attractive deep green that was admired by many.

When 2001 rolled around, I elected to lease a Saturn L series instead of going with the Taurus. I needed something similar in size with the Taurus and at that time Saturn had a lease deal that could not be beat. In addition, I still wasn’t impressed with the Taurus which I felt had been out-engineered by other cars in its class. So, I took home the Saturn and donated my Taurus to the Kidney Foundation.

The 2005 model year represented the final year that Ford would offer the Taurus through dealers; for 2006 the Taurus is only available as a fleet car and it is unchanged from the previous year’s model. The slow selling Sable was mercifully put to rest one year earlier.

For Ford, concentrating on trucks and SUVs meant neglecting much of their car line up, including the Taurus. Bigger and stronger SUVs, including the Expedition and Excursion, were introduced as America’s tastes continued to shift from passenger cars to SUVs. In addition, the ever popular F Series pick up trucks went through regular style and engineering changes every four years or so as did the Explorer, Ford’s midsized SUV.

Higher gas prices and changing tastes are once again impacting Fords’ line up. The beefy Excursion is gone and new cars including the Five Hundred and Fusion are now part of the line up. These two new models represent a fresh change for Ford and a promise that the attention once given to the Taurus would be given to the new models. For that, I am glad.
