Safe Travel in the Caribbean
Friday, July 31st, 2009Traveling to the Caribbean is really exciting. Once the details of the trip are worked out and the package booked what remains is packing and getting ready for a fun-filled trip. It is very important that one has a safe travel and stay while on a vacation. Here are some tips to keep in mind while in the Caribbean.
1. Petty thefts are quite rampant on some of the Caribbean islands and it is important that visitors use theft-proof gear with wire mesh to prevent slashes and rips. In addition, travel purses with a closed zipper that can be secured to a chair or pole can be used when one goes for a swim. Hikers and trekkers should be careful and use backpack protectors.
2. Stay within sight of lifeguards and avoid swimming alone. Avoid swimming after dark as it increases the risk of entanglements. Drinking alcoholic drinks before swimming could be dangerous as it dulls the reflexes and causes coordination problems.
3. Using a surfboard leash while surfing reduces the possibility of a runaway surfboard hurting other surfers.
4. When you travel in the Caribbean avoid being out too much in the sun as it might cause a heat stroke. Sunscreen should be applied when one sunbathes. Stay in the shade during the hottest parts of the day and drink plenty of water and other fluids.
5. Divers should make sure that there are no storms and hurricanes before they venture out into the sea.
6. An effective insect repellent should be carried along while traveling in the Caribbean. Mosquito bites could cause malarial fever. Visitors who opt to go camping or sleeping outdoors should sleep under mosquito nets.
7. Those suffering from some indigestion should stay away from tap water and stick to bottled water and juices when they travel in the Caribbean.
